Lakshan Sandakan is traded as one of the best upcoming chinaman bowlers from Sri Lanka. His skillful ability to turn the ball either way with potential control over his bowling, makes it very difficult for the batsmen to realize his bowling spells. His decision to play for the Colombo Cricket Club in 2013-14 proved to be the turning point in his career. It was the right trajectory growth for his career. He recorded his finish at the top of the wickets chart with 54 scalps at a miserly 19.14. He followed it up with another spectacular season the consecutive year with 45 wickets.
When Sri Lanka performed poor against India at home in 2017, Sandakan was one of the few bright bowlers. He managed to bag a fifer in the third Test at Pallekele, making him the first chinaman in 14 long years to sweep in a five-wicket haul in Tests. With a cool composure and calm head, he is one of the promising stars to look out for in the future who can definitely play a lead role for the Lankan spin order to set the team back on track.
