Kohli was born into a Punjabi family. His father, Prem Kohli, was a criminal lawyer and his mother, Saroj Kohli, is a housewife. He grew up in Delhi and represented Delhi’s cricket team at many age-group levels. He made his first-class debut in 2006. He was the captain of the India Under-19 team that won the 2008 Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia. He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at the age of 19. Kohli has established himself as a consistent middle-order batsman in ODI matches and played for the Indian team that won the 2011 World Cup. Kohli’s supporters call him a ‘run machine’. ESPN ranked him as one of the most famous athletes of the world, and Forbes admired him as one of the most valuable athlete brands.
