Jonathan mark Bairstow, commonly known as Jonny Bairstow, is an English middle order batsman who also keeps wicket for his country. Regarded as one of the best wicket keeper batsmen to come out of English cricket setup, Bairstow holds the record for being the only English keeper to claim nine dismissals in a match, twice. He also holds the record for most dismissals by a keeper (70) in a calendar year, which he set in the year 2016. In the same year he scored 1470 runs in test matches which too is a record for most runs in a calendar year by a wicket keeper.
Bairstow was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, in 1989 and is the second son of former Yorkshire and England wicket keeper David Bairstow. His talent for cricket was apparent since his formative years, when he was chosen the inaugural winner of Young Wisden School Cricketer of the year award for scoring 654 runs for his school, St. Peter’s School, York, in the year 2007. Often referred lovingly as ‘YJB’ by fans, he is one of the mainstays of the current English team.
