Mehrab Hossain is a cricketer who played in 9 Tests and 18 ODIs for Bangladesh. He witnessed a short cricketing career from 1998 to 2003. Hossain is the first centurion of Bangladesh in ODI cricket. To become the first Bangladeshi centurion, he amassed 101 runs against Zimbabwe in a triangular series prior to the 1999 ICC World Cup. Interestingly, his uncle, Azhar Hossain, is the first Bangladeshi cricketer to score an ODI half-century for Bangladesh in the year 1990.
Hossain is linked with a very disastrous incident. On February 20, 1998, he smashed a ball that accidentally hit the head of Raman Lamba, a former aggressive opening batsman of Delhi. Lamba was fielding very close to the batsman and succumbed to the injury later that day. Hossain was profoundly dismayed by this accident and took a break from cricket. Though he came back to play for Bangladesh, his career was a short one.
