15 Lines that prove Harsha Bhogle is the Ultimate Cricket Commentator

- by Benny Thompson

Everyone knows Harsha Bhogle. The outsider who never played cricket at a professional level but is so good when it comes to commentary that he is now on par with the best in the business. In fact, everyone loves Harsha Bhogle. Here are 15 lines he said on the mic which prove that when it comes to cricket commentary, Harsha Bhogle is indeed the king:

1. Geoffrey Boycott said that Sachin Tendulkar might be a great batsman but his name is not on the Lord’s Honour Board:
“So whose loss is it? Sachin’s or the honour board’s?”

2. When Sachin Tendulkar scores a straight drive:
“Open the textbook, turn to page 32!”

3. About Rahul Dravid’s impeccable form:
“Ask him to walk on water and he will ask: ‘for how many kilometers!’”

4. About Glenn Maxwell’s batting style:
“He just loves to storm through. I guess if he had a car, he would probably start it in fourth gear!”

5. When Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa were hitting everything out of the park during a T20:
“This format of the game is like playing book cricket. Every page you open, you get 4s and 6s!”

6. When India’s eleventh man – Varun Aaron – was coming in to bat:
“Cricket is the only sport in the world where you’re absolutely horrible at something and still have to go out there and do it!”

7. When MS Dhoni was whacking the ball at one end and Sachin was painting cover drives at the other end:
“We have a surgeon at one end and a butcher at the other!”

8. When he was co-commentating with Dravid and India were losing a Test match to England:
“The only man who can save this Test match is the man sitting next to me!”

9. Looking at a pitch full of cracks during a tour of England:
“Looks like Suarez was here!”

10. When a diving Kieron Pollard could not take a catch:
“If Pollard can’t reach it then it’s not a catch!”

11. When Sachin got out to Michael Vaughan of all people:
“Oh, what a shame! It’s like a soldier who survived the war when all the bullets were flying by his nose and then got run over by a bicycle in his native town!”

12. On how tough it must be to be Sachin:
“One of the problems you face being Tendulkar is that you’re always compared with Tendulkar!”

13. When Sachin scored yet another boundary:
“When Sachin hits a straight drive, the world seems all the more beautiful!”

14. When he summed up India’s Great Wall with this epic line:
“Is there a more calming sight in world cricket than Rahul Dravid taking guard?”

15. When he welcomed Sachin to the middle of the crease with yet another gem:
“Eruption of joy at the fall of an Indian wicket can only mean one thing!”
